PADI Boat Diver Course

Specialty Dive Courses

If you’ve always wanted to try the thrill on disembarking a boat and heading straight down to a great dive site, this Boat Diver Course is for you.

WHO is up for adventure?

You’ll need to be over 12 years old and hold a minimum of a Junior Open Water Diver certification in order to complete the Boat Diver Course.

WHAT is all the fuss about?

Boat diving can be a fun experience, although many first-time boat divers are often quite overwhelmed at the unfamiliar procedures, terminology and entry and exit requirements.

Taking this course will teach you everything you need to know about boat diving, ensuring you are at ease before embarking on your first boat diving adventure.

WHAT will I learn?

Together with your PADI instructor, the coursework will explain why certain boats are used in certain locations and for certain conditions, and how and why entry and exit procedures differ depending on the boat and the conditions.

You’ll become familiar with equipment such as surface lines for entry procedures and practice the skills and techniques that are specific to boat diving including boat diving etiquette.

Although each boat is likely to be different, the basic concepts are the same, and it’s important to know your way around the boat, where your gear will be stored and the entry and exit procedures to ensure you have a great, hassle-free experience every time.

WHERE will it take me?

If you ever find your way to the fantastic Coral Triangle, almost all of the diving around Sipadan, Kapalai and Mabul is likely to be from a boat. In order to have the best experience possible, even in choppy waters or strong currents, it’s a good idea to be comfortable with the concept of boat diving before you enter the water.

The one exception to all the boat diving opportunities, and a unique experience to try if you have the chance, is the lift that lowers you into the water at Seaventures House Reef. This interesting site is actually an old oil rig that has now been converted into a resort and dive site.

WHEN will I be ready?

The course is fairly short and only requires 2 boat dives to complete, so you’ll be on your way to looking like a pro in no time!

WHY should I be excited?

Boat diving, whether it’s on a rib, speedboat or liveaboard, gives you the option to visit remote dive spots or those sites that are not accessible from the shore.

Simply, it gives you the chance to experience more diving in one location, and who could say no to that?!

HOW do I do it?

By following the course and your instructor’s lead, you’ll gain a valuable set of skills that will enhance your boat diving experience.

You’ll have the chance to plan, organise and conduct safe dives from a boat and you’ll be aware of any potential hazards, how to avoid them and how to handle them if they do arise.
